One thing about having farm animals - it will teach you about death, and how tenuous life really is. I've had goats for 10 years now, and the death/dying part doesn't get easier, but my appreciation of life (my own and everything around me) has grown.

Sorry about your loss.

Hi Timothy, Naomi, and Iain,

Great-looking party — sad I missed it! I'm very interested in volunteering at Roshambofarms and was wondering if there was an email address to which I could send a little more information. Thanks so much.

I had a blast! Best farm party in the state of California. Tim, Naomi and Iain know how to host a farm full of great and interesting people. I cannot wait to go back! Thank you for being so generous with your creativity and hospitality.

Madeline,

Yes, the ranch party is still on. Farm life is queasy some of the time. Our first lesson was that if we intend to eat meat, we must raise it ourselves. I cried the day our pigs were slaughtered, but I watched and felt compassion for the life and what it means to eat meat. I knew these pigs, and I spent much time sitting with them giving them treats and scratching their ears. Every time I pull out a parcel from my chest freezer I thank them for what they gave to us. As for the bees and my son. He was safe. If you have ever been around a swarm they are actually very safe, I put my hands right into the ball of bees knowing that I would not get stung. So details... I will post them now.

I picked up a postcard at Weird Fish and was interested in knowing more about the Ranch Party. The postcard says to go to roshambofarms.com for all the details?? I found nothing about the ranch party.
The few bits of the blog that I did read left me with a queasy feeling though since the first one was about how you were bleeding and scabbing from poison ivy?? and then the attempt to pick up bees with your child not being protected was terrifying.
Since Weird Fish is vegan, the bits about MEAT and pigs didn't make sense.

I am not a vegan, it just all seemed odd and frustrating not to find the ranch party description. I thought that you'd want to know?
Madeline Behrens-Brigham/p.s. The name line wouldn't let me include my full name; perhaps you only want first names.

Hi there. Kirsten and I are fans from way back when we visited your winery. We're also trying to pay more attention to where our food comes from, a habit which started when we began to homebrew our beer. I'll tell you, it's not that easy in New York City, even with the farmers' markets.

At any rate, we recently decided to try to make our own cheese. It was a neat piece of serendipity when we found a straggler bottle of your '06 Zin on Broadway and Astor the very day we decided to try our first aged homemade cheese, a 7-week farmhouse cheddar. Your wine was better than our cheese, but we're undaunted and will continue, next time with raw milk from Pennsylvania.

Good luck in your new venture -- I hope you have a visitor's place when we make our next trip to Sonoma. All the best to you and yours,

-Greg and Kirsten.

As for the bees and my son. He was safe. If you have ever been around a swarm they are actually very safe, I put my hands right into the ball of bees knowing that I would not get stung. So details... I will post them now.

One thing about having farm animals - it will teach you about death, and how tenuous life really is. I've had goats for 10 years now, and the death/dying part doesn't get easier, but my appreciation of life (my own and everything around me) has grown.

Sorry about your loss.

One thing about having farm animals - it will teach you about death, and how tenuous life really is. I've had goats for 10 years now, and the death/dying part doesn't get easier, but my appreciation of life (my own and everything around me) has grown.

Sorry about your loss.

Good luck in your new venture — I hope you have a visitor’s place when we make our next trip to Sonoma. All the best to you and yours,

Hi Timothy, Naomi, and Iain,

Great-looking party — sad I missed it! I'm very interested in volunteering at Roshambofarms and was wondering if there was an email address to which I could send a little more information. Thanks so much.

One thing about having farm animals - it will teach you about death, and how tenuous life really is. I've had goats for 10 years now, and the death/dying part doesn't get easier, but my appreciation of life (my own and everything around me) has grown.

Madeline,

I cried the day our pigs were slaughtered, but I watched and felt compassion for the life and what it means to eat meat. As for the bees and my son. He was safe. If you have ever been around a swarm they are actually very safe, I put my hands right into the ball of bees knowing that I would not get stung. So details... I will post them now.

One thing about having farm animals - it will teach you about death, and how tenuous life really is. I've had goats for 10 years now, and the death/dying part doesn't get easier, but my appreciation of life (my own and everything around me) has grown.

I visited your winery 11 years ago and bought one of your baseball caps. I love it and have worn it to death. Is there anyway I can find a replacement?

You are not allergic to everything until you are allergic to lettuce. I win. And my prize is... hey! This sucks! I want a refund!

I agree you could be a writer. If you stopped before "Oh yeah", it's a Gibsonesque stream on the order of "Kid Afrika came cruising into Dog Solitude on the last day in November, his vintage Dodge chauffeured by a white girl named Cherry Chesterfield", which is my favorite paragraph evar.

I am sad to see the winery go, but I have cases of your stuff to comfort me, and pigs are a good reason to do a farm. I always went to the pigs at the state fair as a child, and they fascinate me. Good luck in your new endeavor!
